About

Well-behaved women rarely make history.

January 7, 2009

After some bad experiences as a volunteer for a couple of nonprofit organizations, I started writing in a journal. First it was once every couple of weeks with a group of women who became dear friends. I decided to work through The Artist’s Way. I decided to start “publishing” some of my writing while I experimented with a new technology – blogging. I started this blog on October 17, 2002.

I am a perpetual scholar. When I find something new that intrigues me, I dive in and learn. I taught myself how to design websites by hand-coding my first website in 1997. After a few years, I took a baby step forward and bought FrontPage. That was okay for a while. I did several websites with it. A couple of years ago, when I switched to my MacBook, I took a big leap forward and bought Dreamweaver and started teaching myself how to use it.

I got involved in local politics and discovered some things I do well, so I taught myself how to manage campaigns from top to bottom. Campaign finance forms, fundraising, publicity, media relations, visibility, strategy, messaging, phone banks, polls, robocalls, massive mailings — all of it.

This blog has evolved over the years. I’ve removed entries that started to feel too personal after a while. I removed all references to my name because anonymity seemed wiser, though I am not completely hidden. I went from posting journal entries to more political stuff, most of which I deleted when I had to move from Blogger to WordPress (pre-2007 entries). That was a pain in the ass, when Blogger abruptly stopped allowing and/or supporting FTP publishing. I spent a year doing my own research into Jung’s concept of the shadow, and posting what I discovered in the books I read and my reactions to those words. I had to password-protect my blog for nearly nine months after someone I thought was a friend turned into a stalker. After installing “IP Address Blocker” and watching my various stat counters for a while, I felt safe enough again to remove the password protection. Last year, I discovered Tolle’s A New Earth. It helped me take my understanding of ego to a new level. I think, perhaps, it is time for me to re-read it again. I need to remember that I am enough.

I’m not sure what this blog is for me right now, January 7, 2009. It is many things. It is nothing.

It’s just something I do.
